REMLOs earn commissions on both home purchases and future refinances from their contacts. Additionally, they can assist clients moving out of state with their mortgage, as federally chartered banks can lend nationwide.

Brokers or team leads can become a “REMLO sales manager” for the team

Sometimes, a real estate broker or team leader becomes the 'REMLO sales manager,' enabling all team members to act as REMLOs. The manager oversees them and receives overrides for their closed loans.

Being a REMLO is similar to participating in a mortgage affiliate program

Part-time REMLOs are on the rise due to advanced technology simplifying loan origination tasks. With a mobile app, they can effortlessly send application links, conduct soft credit pulls, and issue pre-qualification letters.

Recent FHA changes opened the door for real estate agents to become REMLOs

Previously, RESPA rules permitted real estate agents to be loan officers, but FHA restrictions hindered this practice. In December 2022, FHA regulations shifted, allowing real estate agents to serve as MLOs. Regulations for referral partners have historically been less stringent.

Part-time REMLOs, hired as W2 employees of the lender, stay compliant while earning for loans sourced through their contacts.
